The confessional scene is the first indication that this place is mighty f*cked up.

Do you think gaming can be scary? I have asked this question before, and I do believe you know my answer. Due to the interactivity of it all, I honestly believe a well-made horror game can be SCARIER than a horror film. Because you are not so much a witness when you play it as you are a part of the story. For great examples of this, look at games like Dead Space and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. For some, those games are too scary to play. I spent a good number of weeks trying to find a game that was unsettling and creepy that I could share with you guys and gals, and I found a gem with the Exmortis series. I know I am starting you off on part 2, but only because you get the gist of the story pretty quick, with all the bugs and kinks worked out of part 1. And there is still a part 3 for your to explore if you beat this one. Game on, my brave friends.

So are you familiar with the point-and-click style of adventure game? I’d like to assume you are, but if not, allow me to give you a quick lesson. You point at stuff using your mouse, and you click on stuff using your mouse. It really is a perfectly named genre of gaming in that sense. It may sound simple, but I have seen point-and-click games that take place in one room, and people can’t even figure out how to leave the room. It takes a certain type of thinking to be good at these games. But once you get into it, it is as engrossing as any game you’ve experienced before.

Point-and-click is one of the oldest forms of gaming. And when it is done right, it is INCREDIBLY effective at immersing you in the world it is weaving for you, with your help, ofcourse.

So turn the volume up (sound design is key in games like this) and be prepared to experience a post-apocalyptic world unlike anything you have before.

Welcome to Exmortis.

Scary Games

I told you it got pretty messed up.

The medium of gaming has come so far, but games as creepy and effective as this pretty much prove it’s not always about the graphics or speed of action. Sometimes, a tense, slow-burn of an experience can be just as memorable, if not more so.

And Exmortis proves that.

Hey, I never said the game was kid friendly.
